Seaside Village of De Haan

Ian's parents have rented bicycles and we all rode along the wonderful bike paths to the North Sea. Belgians are cyclists as evident by the young and old out on their bikes (without helmets!) getting around on the prolific bike lanes throughout the city and out of town. We rode along the East - West canal (that eventually goes to Holland) and made our away along the coast to the gorgeous village of De Haan, meaning Le Coque (the cock/ rooster). The vacation town, of course with its regular residents, is charactarized by interesting architechture that I have named, 'brick meets barn.' We had gorgeous warm weather with little wind and enjoyed a lovely stop to walk around De Haan. We took all day to ride a flat 60 K. We arrived back to Brugge in time for quick dinner shopping before the evening rain hit. Itermittent sprinkles seems to be the pattern on these long summer days here...gets dark around 10:30 pm.
Beaches with the necessary wind barriers
STOP....flower photos!
Handy cycling maps worthy of regular double checking the route
